UK Foreign Office Minister Hugh Robertson meets injured protesters and emphasises UK support for Libyan security, justice and defence

FCO Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa, Hugh Robertson, arrived in Tripoli on Monday for his first visit to Libya since taking up the position last month. His visit focused on the UK’s support for the Libyan security, justice and defence sectors.

TRIPOLI, Libya — The military swept into the country’s capital Monday with dozens of pickup trucks mounted with antiaircraft guns to drive out militiamen in a raid hailed by Libyans frustrated with the numerous armed groups.

Libya's military swept into the capital Monday with dozens of pickup trucks mounted with anti-aircraft guns in an operation to drive out militiamen, met by a warm welcome from Libyans seething with anger against the numerous armed groups running rampant in the country.

Making his first media appearance since his appointment as Minister of Defence in August, Abdullah Al-Thini said that his Ministry had “put the train on the track” regarding the creation of a Libyan army.
